15 students drawn from universities in Ghana are to benefit from this year’s edition of Huawei’s “Seeds for the future program.”

The students, mainly students of ICT from their respective institutions will be travelling to Beijing and Shenzen to get hands on training for their field of study.

The 15 students were drawn from the University of Ghana, Ghana Technology University College, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as well as Ashesi University.

This year’s edition was launched at the Ministry of Communications on Friday, May 19, 2017.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu Ekuful urged the students to see the opportunity as an avenue to harness their skills for the development of Ghana’s economy upon return.

According to her, their stay in China should also be regarded as an opportunity to showcase the Ghanaian culture as they will be ‘ambassadors’ of the country irrespective of wherever they find themselves.

On his part, the CEO for Huawei Ghana, Mr. Richard Liu Kang said “through the seeds of the future programme, Huawei seeks to collaborate with the Ghanaian Government, Universities and other tertiary institutions and other organizations to select top Ghanaian university students and young professionals from ICT related departments, to offer them opportunities to study and gain work experience and also help them learn more about Chinese culture and gain cross-cultural work experience in a global business environment.”

Also at the event were the Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy to Ghana, Mr. Jiang Zhouteng and Ghana’s Ambassador designate to China, Mr. Edward Boateng.

Jiang Zhouteng was hopeful the move will deepen the bilateral relationship between China and Ghana.

Meanwhile Ambassador Boateng also pledged his support to the students during their stay in China.

He also advised them to be committed to improving their knowledge and impact their country upon return.

This year’s program is expected to run from May 29 to June 10, 2017.
